Roboguard Systems

Roboguard Manufactures a range of products that an be used in many different applications. Some of the applications include :

  • Residential Early Warning SystemThis is our most common application where roboguards are deployed along with our portable HQ or our receiver-keypad products. The roboguards provide the household with vital early warning when intruders are detected. Different Roboguard detectors can be used in different situations to protect houses or smaller areas such as patios.
  • Calling and Panic systemsRoboguard products can be used to make effective wireless calling systems for frail or elderly people. Roboguard systems can easily add remote panic features to an existing security application.
  • Industrial Early Warning SystemThis application is similar to the residential application described above except in an industrial or business environment.
  • Guard Supplementation SystemRoboguards have been deployed to supplement the human guards in an industrial environment. Now your guard can be alerted to movement throughout the premises 24/7.     In conjunction with a RoboManager (PC software) installation the human guard activity can now also be monitored and audited. Reaction times of the guards can be measured and regular patrols can be monitored. The Robomanager software can be used to audit the effectiveness of your out-sourced guarding service.
  • Livestock Protection SystemRoboguards can be installed around livestock enclosures to detect the livestock escaping or the presence of intruders attempting to steal the livestock.
  • Intruder ResponseRoboguard sensors can be used to trigger intruder repelling systems such as tear-gas canisters, electronic scarecrows, recordings of barking dogs etc. Your imagination is your limitation here.
  • Security Enhancement ApplicationsRoboguard products can be used to wirelessly (Read hassle-free) interconnect Roboguard products to your existing security system or, vica-versa, to interface existing security features (such as a fence alarm) into the Roboguard System.
  • Home Automation ApplicationsRoboguard Products can be used to switch appliances on or off remotely or to trigger devices such as cameras as a result of intruder detection. Roboguard receivers and transmitters can be configured to open and close automated gates, garage doors etc. Our six-button remote is particularly useful in this regard.    Roboguard products can be connected to GPS/GPRS-phone communicator modules to remotely monitor your security or remotely activate appliances and security products.
  • Roboguard Computer ApplicationsRoboguard Signals can be generated by special Roboguard products from a personal computer. The same equipment can also detect radio transmissions from Roboguard Products. We have a process available to qualified consultants who can develop third party applications for any application.
  • Other applicationsRoboguards can be used in many unique and varying applications. Contact us with your application and we will advise.

What distance does a Roboguard cover?
Roboguard uses two passive infrared sensors that fan out to cover an area of 110° at a radius of 20 meters. This equates to 2 X 11 beams, one every 10 degrees that will cover an area of 400 square meters.

Do you need two Roboguards facing each other?
No, Roboguard is not like the conventional active beams that shine a single beam to a reflector on the other side of your property. Roboguard picks up heat movement in front of it so you will only need one Roboguard per area.

How many Roboguards do you need to cover your property?
The majority of Roboguard owners usually start off with two Roboguards (one for the driveway and the other to cover the bedroom), and then expand their system as they find the weak spots on their property. Each property varies and it is best to get a good idea of how the Roboguard fans out its beams and then have a walk about on your property and visualise where the Roboguards will be in best use on your property.

How do you protect the maximum area?
There are only so many entry points to a property and only so many vulnerable spots on your house. The idea is to catch the intruder between the two so that your family may have the crucial seconds to react against the unwelcome visitor before he smashes your window. It is best to have a look at your property and determine where the intruder will come from and where he is going. For example stop him before he gets to your car in your driveway or put a Roboguard to look after the windows at your bedroom.

What is the HQ?
Your HQ is the head quarters that will alert you to which Roboguard has been triggered. It will beep the zone amount of times (1 to 4) for each Roboguard, giving you the capability of determining which Roboguard triggered without getting up to check the zone on the HQ.

How far can the HQ be from the Roboguards?
All Roboguards are tested up to 400 meters away from the HQ line-of-sight.

How long do the batteries last?
Roboguard uses eight C-size batteries (torch batteries) that will last three to five years although some have lasted up to 8 years. The HQ will alert you when the batteries need replacing by flashing the trouble light.

What is the warranty on a Roboguard?
The HQ and Roboguards have a year warranty and come with a roboguard lifetime warranty against UV damage and lightning strikes. See here for our full warranty.

How do you switch off a Roboguard?
It is as simple as pushing the desired zone button on the HQ and the light will go off, indicating that the Roboguard is now switched off. Do take note though that after a Roboguard has been triggered, the corresponding light on the HQ will start flashing indicating the zone/s Roboguard triggered. In this case you have to push the button once first so that the light is solid and once more to switch off the light and the corresponding Roboguard. To switch it on again press the button again and it will be back on.

Is the Roboguard waterproof and UV stable?
Roboguards are made out of a Poly-carb ABS blend and not only is it 100% waterproof against rain it also carries a lifetime warranty against UV damage. Do not however spray a sprinkler directly onto a Roboguard, the speed of the water may penetrate the housing and damage the electronics.

How do the beams work?
Roboguard uses two passive infrared sensors that will pick up any heat movement and determine whether it is a human. In order to trigger a Roboguard you have to break both the top and bottom beam, which minimises false alarms to almost zero. There is an array of 11 beams covering an area of 110° at a radius of 20 meters.

Does a plant trigger a Roboguard?
In most cases plants do not give too many problems, but larger leaves like a palm sitting in direct sunlight may cause false alarms. To solve this, Roboguards wireless nature allows you to simple screw it off the wall and relocate it to a different position even if it is just a meter to the left. Blocking off may also eliminate beams and this will allow you to stop the Roboguard from being triggered by the single problem plant, without having to move it.

Can you have more than one HQ working with the same Roboguards?
Yes, each Roboguard carries an individual code, which is learned into the HQ. To set up more that one HQ with a set of Roboguards it is simple a procedure of learning the Roboguards into the HQ’s as they are added.

What colours do Roboguards come in?
At present black, green and white are available. One can paint them by covering up the lenses, priming them with a plastic primer before painting them. White lenses are also available.

Can dogs/cats set it off?
No, there are two PIR’s (sensors) that need to be triggered before an intruder is recognised. To avoid the animal from triggering the Roboguard you simply install the bottom PIR at the height of the dog’s tail. So no matter how big your animal is, it will never set it off.
